Tour California's giant redwood forest at Muir Woods National Monument in Marin County. Walk among one of the few old-growth stands of Sequoia Sempervirens left in the world. These huge redwoods were saved from the 18th century loggers because of their relative inaccessibility.

Just 12 miles by car from the Golden Gate Bridge, these stately trees were finally preserved in 1908 when President Theodore Roosevelt declared the land a national monument. The tallest tree in the Muir Woods is 258 feet (79 m). The average age of the redwoods in the Monument are between 500 and 800 years old with the oldest being at least 1,100 years old. Tour Muir Woods National Monument on foot to see this beautiful redwood tree forest up close

After our visit to Muir Woods, we make a short hop from the west side of Marin to its eastern shore on the San Francisco Bay. The village of Sausalito is often compared to Mediterranean villages. Time is given for browsing and shopping in this picturesque artist colony nestled on the northern shores of San Francisco Bay.
